I Never Stop Qualifying for the Job

As the company grows, the requirements for me professionally, physically and emotionally also grow. I can still remember how we started out 10 years ago, working on one project at a time as there were only just a few of us working then and serving only Cagayan de Oro clients. Now, we are working on several projects for several clients and several locations at a time. We used to have only the software and applications services but now we are working on web and SEO services. It’s amazing how something so little has grown to a company that we have now. Indeed, patience, hard work and a lot of team work is necessary to succeed in this industry. I am never complacent though with whatever there is now as I always believe that the best of things is yet to be created in as much as the best song is yet to be written and the best work of art has to be painted or sculpted. For me, the best Philippine outsourcing company is yet to emerge. With our current team, existing partners and with our will to continuously grow and succeed, I know this can be done and this will happen. We are also now even more rigorous in our processes in hiring and retaining people. Rigorous – not ruthless. We make sure we keep on board the...

My Dad Is On Facebook

Dad has finally fallen to the facebook-trap. He has officially signed up for a facebook account and is active in making comments on our walls. It’s fun seeing him trying to know what his grandchildren considers as fun and what we are all doing when we want to take a break. Does this mean I should start filtering what I post on my wall? Hmmm … nah … 😛 I’m looking forward to seeing him start tagging pictures, posting status shoutouts and start “liking” whatever is on our wall. Lately he’s been so much into adding more fish to his aquarium and has been so fond with his kois and goldfish. I guess his first facebook app would have to be fishville 😛 Enjoy your facebook fun...

Rest in Peace Sir Brix

Last Saturday, I was given the opportunity to speak in front of all Sir Brix Palmes’ friends and relatives to give my eulogy for him as a friend and as a student. Allow me to share my eulogy to him in this blog. I believe, most of his students share the same sentiments and fond memories of Sir Brix. November 21, 2009 – Tablon Chapel Back in college, I would remember this teacher going around the halls of Xavier University with his toothbrush inside his shirt pocket and his towelette dangling from his back pocket. We called him Patrick Swayze or Richard Gere because of his build and gray streaks in his hair. Sir Brix, as we fondly called him was the epitome of someone who taught by example. As a teacher, he was indeed strict, but strict enough to make us do our work right and a friend enough to let us know that he believed in us and that we could approach him whenever we had problems with our projects or concerns with AIMS (Ateneo Information Management Society), our IM organization then. He was a friend and confidant to all of us. When Jun and I started our IT company, at the time when we weren’t recognized yet in the business community, sir Brix was the one who kept on pushing us and telling us that he...

Team Spirit and Loads of Fun Shared at Syntactics Annual Summer Camp!

April 2009. This year, the team-spirit concept was added to the various events being held by Syntactics. The whole company was divided into 3 teams, each having a distinct color namely red, blue and yellow. Each color had a representative from all the main divisions from the company and these were the administrative, web, software, analysis, OJT and SEO divisions. As a rule, each activity and event will have a corresponding point and at the end of the year, the scores will be tallied and the overall champions will be announced. This new concept made this year’s company summer...

Google releases new snippet feature

Google just added the search snippet feature to their current search algorithm. When you type in a specific keyword into google, it will give you a list of results or suggested pages. With the snippet, google will further recommend an even more detailed information that relates to your keyword by placing it under the search results main link. This will allow you to click directly to the link where you want to find the information or topic. This makes our search faster and we don’t have to go through a lot of pages and sub-links just to get to the main information we want to read. This also goes to show that content and the right use of anchor texts and hyperlinks is really important. For those who are working on Search Engine Optimization in the Philippines, take time to read and learn this. Visit the official google blog to learn...

Syntactics and letIThelp Updates:

A lot of activities and events have happened since the start of this year for our dear Syntactics family and I’m so happy to say that everybody’s been having a great learning experience as well as having a lot of fun with their fellow team-mates. Our very first activity was our summer camp that was held last May and it was our second team-building summer camp activity. We stayed overnight at the Mapawa Nature park where everybody had a blast singing, playing games, zip-lining and everybody participated in our team building activities. The second activity was our retreat where this time, everybody were given the chance to recollect and found solace and peace in prayers and silence. After the retreat, it was heartwarming when I heard (as I was in Manila working in our Makati office – so sad that I was not able to join everyone) about how each and everyone said thank you to the people that have touched their lives. Just recently, we had our very first annual sportsfest at Victoria Beach wherein the Red team was announced as the very first overall sportsfest champion for the two organizations. Yesterday, we had a mini-lecture on “good grooming,” as this is part of our series of self-improvement for everybody (not that it’s really needed, but any additional learning is always appreciated). I will be writing more about...

Incorporating Branding in Web Design

Brand strategy is the how, where, when, what, and to whom you plan on communicating and delivering on your brand messages. With the advent of technology and the ease access of the internet for a lot of consumers, websites are now considered as one of the known distribution channels for a company’s branding strategy. When a business organization decides to have a website developed, much thought in its marketing and its branding approach must be given. The reason for having a website should not be because the company has to ride the technological bandwagon but it should be because the company wants to reach out to their target market more and would want to establish their branding online, one that is consistent with their current marketing strategies. When you decide to have a website developed for your company, always remember that your website becomes your online target market’s first impression of your company, who you are and what you offer. It is important then to find a web developing company then that would understand the importance of branding and would inculcate your marketing strategies to your website and at the same time follow the standards in web development. Sit down with your web consultants and inform them of your approach, your target market, how you want your target market to feel when they see your brand. Bear in mind,...

We made it for the second year in a row!!

I would like to thank the members of digitalfilipino.com for nominating and voting for our company website www.syntacticsinc.com in the 2008 digitalfilipino web awards! We’re happy to announce that our site has once again bagged the national award under the corporate category for the second consecutive year.
