Vampire = Systems Analyst

Ping, this is for you. I miss you duy. Where have you been? Utterly busy? You were actually one of the very few who appreciated the vampires that Anne Rice has woven into this world or is it, you are actually the only person from this city that I know who can relate to these beings and who actually got the gist about the art and passion of these creatures? The idea of being a vampire at first was ghastly especially with the thought that victims unwillingly had their life literally sucked out from them. Guillermo del Toro said “There are two levels of vampirism: one is the regular vampire, which is just like it has always been; and then there’s the super vampires, which are a new breed we’ve created.” I would like to further divide into two the latter breed of vampires. First is the “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” Kind (sorry, I really think they are uber ugly when they transform to their vampire state) and then, there’s Anne Rice Vampires. Vampire Armand said to Louie about the newer and weaker vampires “They had forgotten the first lesson, that we are to be powerful, beautiful, and without regret.” After reading the entire vampire chronicles I can’t help but wonder at how amazing these creatures are. Here’s what I appreciate about them: Undoubtedly great sense of style –...

Software developer….web designer…analyst…. Electrician … and now aircon technician.

Hay nako… So, the air conditioner in my office started dripping again so we had to pull out the aircon and check out if the “pipes” were stuck or something. After the aircon was again inserted back to its “hole” we noticed that the “compressor” was not working well and that the air coming out of the equipment was rather warm. I was sure that we bought a brand new air-conditioning unit and not a heater. So, we removed it AGAIN from its “place” and saw that one of the red wires was unplugged from God knows where it should be. And so, we called the service center to send someone over nalang to repair it and they replied with “oh, sorry, you would have to wait within next week as all our technicians are out for the holidays and we are fully booked already for early next week.” Duh? Does that mean I have to wear my business attire and suffer the heat? And so…. We removed the aircon AGAIN from it’s place and started analyzing where the red wire should be plugged in. We attempted several times until I saw the electrical diagram of the unit. So, ayan. Aircon fixed. Honey = aircon technician....

My dear graduates…..*ahem*

Last Friday, I was asked to be the speaker for the commencement exercises for one the vocational schools in Iligan City. There were about 1,200 graduates, all from computer-related courses. At first, I thought I was just “one” of the speakers and I was really surprised when I got to the location, I saw my name written on the backdrop of the stage as THE commencement speaker. *Gulp* It was not easy to outline my accountability and stewardship for the gift of life and profession given to me, all the more speak about it to 1,200 graduates who are all feeling hyped- up and nervous knowing that in just a matter of one day, some of them will shift from being students to being part of the statistics of the unemployed….. and the race begins. I do remember how I felt on graduation day. I was happy that I was done with college and I can start with the next step in life. Yet, I was scared that I might not get to where I want to be or not do the things I want to do. What if I had too high expectations of things to come? What if my future work is something i do not love? What if Hugh Jackman proposes for marriage to me and I’d be too busy to say yes? (hehe…. I just...

AND THEN, THERE WERE THREE

First it was Noemi a few years ago, today, Ting. I once had a dream that seemed so real that the sequence for our barkada for this step in life would be as follows: Noemi, Me, Ting, Binky and Zoia. Hmmmm….. since the sequence was broken with me, then it might not have been a vision but just a typical nightmare….for me that is. Today was a meaningful day for one of my high school barkada, Christine. It seems that all of us in the group were given specific tasks. Noemi, of course was in charge of the photography,...

Get a free copy of Blog This: How Blogs Empower Every Internet User

Woohoo! I’m going to Get a free copy of Blog This: How Blogs Empower Every Internet User!!! That’s right…I’m getting a FREE copy of this e-book since I’m a DIgitalFilipino Member. Wehehehe. Just thought it would be fun to write a blog that starts with a taunt. Haha. Janette Toral is an esteemed IT writer, speaker, advocate and “mentor.” Ever since I joined Digitalfilipino, my life in the IT profession has never been the same. Exaggerated ba? Of course not! She has actually taught me so many things, introduced me to the right people and have encouraged me to step out of the comfort zone in working in this industry. Therefore, all I have is praises for her. Her publication on the Philippine Internet Review: Ten Years of the Internet (1994-2004) is also now a collector’s item. You might want to check it out at Digitalfilipino.com. Now, going back to the topic on her latest E-book. It’s got about 8 lessons, all very important, starting from introduction to blogs to setting up blog networks. The world of blog is fascinating, just tonight, I got a message telling me that through my blog, “I made her day.” Naks, parang PLDT, touching lives. But I’m happy that this is my blog’s effect on other people and it makes all the time spent clickity-clicking on my keyboard all worthwhile. So, whether you...

Techies? Going Camping?

Time has passed and no blog from Honey. What does that mean? It means that Honey is too busy and even in the insomniac moments of her life, she has to work or she would end up panting, catching up with things she has to finish for another week. Okay, enough of referring myself in the third person. It’s beginning to sound scary and schizophrenic. This is now Honey, the first and conscious person speaking. LOL. So much has passed the last few weeks. I have a blog/fairy tale (don’t worry Ba…not you) coming up, inspired by our recent company overnight camping trip with my wonderful and dedicated team. I got a chance to bond with them and actually hear their stories and voices (yes, one of them brought a guitar along so they were singing the night away). Of course, what better topic is there to talk about while around a bonfire but ghost stories, just so we can have a reason to squeal and scream when we hear something creeping behind us and only to find out that someone from the other camp came close to our area to pee by the bushes (okay, exaggerating here). One thing I can comment about that little adventure is that, my ever prepared team of analysts, designers and developers(when it comes to work) must have thought that tents and drinking...

Update – Desperas ng Valentines

Dear Lord, please make me thin. But if you won’t make me thin, could you at least make my friends fat? Hehehe…answered prayer yan! Hahaha… JK (well, half truth). Anyway, unfortunately, I won’t make it to Eservices because of some work to finish. Maybe next year. I’ll still be going to Manila within the year though, for a bet I lost…but then again, if the one I made the wager with failed to comply, then we’re even! *wink wink* The school year is about to end and there has been a lot of applications for our OJT (On the Job Training) program in our company. I guess, a lot of students are interested in training with us because a) They will learn from us b) They will be working in IT related tasks c) They will not be tasked to buy banana-cue d) They will not be tasked to photocopy files e) They will not be tasked to make coffee for the managers and superiors. Back in college, when we got “hired” by our respective companies, we all huddled up and started telling each other where we will be heading. I was lucky enough to work for a holding company in Cebu. Puns were of course made for those who worked for the following: a) Bank – Mag count ng lastiko b) Water District – Mag pump ng tubig...
